Klamath County Health Department: Tobacco Retail Licensing
On January 1, 2018, Klamath County will begin its tobacco retail license (TRL) program in Klamath Falls and unincorporated towns within Klamath County. This program requires all sellers of tobacco products to obtain a license issued by the county. Klamath County is the fourth county in Oregon to implement TRL. Tobacco retail licensing is an evidence-based tool that can help local health officials ensure that retailers are compliant with local, state, and federal laws relating to the sale of tobacco products. Currently, Oregon is one of 10 states that does not require businesses to obtain a license to sell tobacco.
Clackamas County Public Health
In 2016 Clackamas County Public Health Division was awarded funding from the State of Oregon, Oregon Health Authority for Sustainable Relationships for Community Health (SRCH). The goal was to work with a consortium to develop a closed-loop referral and payment and reimbursement mechanism for pre-diabetic patients into the CDC-based Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP). Research shows that people with prediabetes who take part in a structured lifestyle change program can cut their risk of developing type 2 diabetes by 58% (71% for people over 60 years old).
Curry County Public Health
On June 16th, 2015, Curry County Health Department received a national award at the Health Impact Assessment National Meeting in Washington DC. The award recognizes Curry County Health Department’s impact on community health and well-being through their 2013 Health Impact Assessment on including manufactured housing in the State’s affordable housing policy.
Lane County Public Health
On December 16th, 2014 the Lane County Board of Commissioners passed a county ordinance that regulates the sale of electronic cigarettes to minors and requires tobacco retailers to have a license to sell tobacco products. The ordinance took affect on January 15th and applies to rural parts of Lane County.
